How to check if your crib, stroller or car seat is recalled
You can check most baby gear in about five minutes. You need two things from the product itself: the model number and the date it was made. With those, you can search our site and the official government lookups, then register the product so the maker can contact you about future recalls.
Step 1: Find the model number and manufacture date
Federal rules require cribs, strollers, play yards, bassinets and other durable baby products to carry a permanent label with the maker's name and contact details, the model name and number, and the date of manufacture (CPSC, 16 CFR part 1130). Car seats carry a similar label with the model number and date of manufacture (NHTSA).
Where to look:
- Cribs and bassinets: check the end panels, the underside of the mattress support and the inside of the frame. Take the mattress out if you need to.
- Strollers: check the frame, especially near the basket, under the seat and around the rear legs. Britax, for example, puts its stroller label on the inside of the frame above the basket (Britax).
- Car seats: check the back, sides and bottom of the seat, and the base if it has one. The date may also be molded into the plastic shell.
Write down the brand, the model name, the model number and the date. A photo of the label works too. If you still have the registration card or the manual, the same details are usually printed there.
If the label is missing or you can't read it, you can't match the product to a recall with confidence. Contact the manufacturer with whatever details you have, such as a photo of the product.
Step 2: Search KidsRecallChecker
Type the brand, the model name or the model number into the search box on our home page. We pull recall data from CPSC and NHTSA every day. You can also browse by category:
- Crib and bassinet recalls
- Stroller recalls
- Car seat recalls
- Latest recalls or recalls by manufacturer
Recalls often cover only certain model numbers or certain manufacture dates. Compare your label with the model list and date range on the recall page, then open the official notice linked on that page.
If you see "No matching recall found," that means our index has no match for what you typed. It does not tell you anything about the condition of the product. Our index can be incomplete or out of date, so also do Step 3.
Step 3: Check the official lookups
- Cribs, strollers, play yards and other household products: search the recall list at CPSC.gov/Recalls. You can search by brand or product name.
- Car seats and booster seats: use NHTSA's lookup at NHTSA.gov/recalls. Pick car seats, then enter the brand and model. Car seat recalls are often limited to certain manufacture dates, so have the date ready.
If you find a match, follow the remedy in the official notice. It might be a repair kit, a replacement or a refund. For car seats, NHTSA advises contacting the manufacturer because some problems can be fixed (NHTSA used car seat checklist).
Step 4: Register the product
Registering is how the maker reaches you if a recall happens later. Makers of cribs, strollers and other durable baby products must include a postage-paid registration card with each product (CPSC). You can usually register online too.
- Car seats: our car seat registration page shows where to find the label and links to registration forms for 11 brands.
- Cribs, strollers and other gear: mail the card, or look for "product registration" on the manufacturer's website.
If you bought the item used, register it in your own name.
Step 5: Check again from time to time
New recalls come out most weeks. Checking again when a new baby arrives, when you move gear to a new home, or before you pass something along is a good habit. Buying or selling used? Our used baby gear guide and used car seat checklist cover what to look at first.

FAQ
How do I know if my car seat has been recalled?
Find the model number and date of manufacture on the label on the seat or base. Search those on KidsRecallChecker and on NHTSA's recall lookup at nhtsa.gov/recalls. Recalls often apply only to certain manufacture dates, so compare the date range in the notice with your label.
Where is the model number on a crib?
Cribs must carry a permanent label with the model name and number and the date of manufacture. Look on the end panels, under the mattress support and on the inside of the frame. The registration card and manual usually list it as well.
Where is the model number on a stroller?
Look on the frame near the basket, under the seat and on the rear legs. Strollers are durable infant products, so federal rules require a permanent label with the model number and manufacture date.
Is there a crib recall list by model number?
CPSC publishes each recall with the affected model numbers in the notice at cpsc.gov/Recalls. KidsRecallChecker lists crib and bassinet recalls by category, and each recall page shows the models and links to the official notice.
What should I do if my baby gear is recalled?
Follow the remedy in the official recall notice. It may tell you to stop using the product and contact the company for a repair, replacement or refund. If a child is hurt, call 911 or Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
Do I need to register my baby products?
It is not required, but it is how the manufacturer can contact you if the product is recalled. Use the postage-paid card that came with the product or the maker's online form.
What does "No matching recall found" mean?
It means our index has no recall that matches your search. Our data can be incomplete or out of date, so check the official CPSC or NHTSA lookup and the manufacturer too.
