Editorial and Sponsor Policy
Effective date: October 15, 2026
Operator: KidsRecallChecker
KidsRecallChecker exists to help parents find recall information quickly and accurately. Sponsors and affiliate links keep the Site free. This policy explains how we keep money separate from safety information.
1. Our core rule
Sponsorship and affiliate relationships never affect:
- Recall data. We show what the official sources publish. We do not add, remove, soften, or delay recalls for anyone.
- Matching. Our matching rules are the same for every brand and product.
- Wording. Hazard and remedy text is shown verbatim from the official notice. Our own result labels are the same for every brand.
- Ranking. Sponsors cannot pay to rank higher, appear first, or push recalls lower.
- Timing. Recalls are published on our normal refresh schedule, whatever the brand.
No sponsor, affiliate partner, or advertiser gets to review, approve, or preview recall content, results, or alert emails before publication.
2. Who may sponsor
- No open recalls. A brand with an open recall in the categories we cover (car seats and kids’ and baby products) may not sponsor the Site, newsletter, or alerts. For this rule, an open recall is one still listed in our index. The rule covers every brand name on that notice, including a parent company named there. Before accepting a sponsor, we check its brand names against our index and against the official CPSC and NHTSA sources.
- Excluded categories. We do not accept sponsors, ads, or affiliate links from:
- Law firms, legal claim services, or lead generation for legal claims.
- Dietary supplements and health products.
- Resale of used kids’ gear, including used car seats and used baby gear marketplaces.
- Gambling, betting, sweepstakes-style gambling, and lotteries.
- Cryptocurrency, tokens, NFTs, and related financial products.
- The owner may decline any sponsor for any reason.
3. Placement rules
- No sponsor next to its own recalls. A sponsor’s ads are never shown on a results page, recall page, or email section about that sponsor’s own recalls.
- No “safe” or “verified” badges. We never label a sponsor, brand, or product as “safe,” “verified,” “approved,” “recall-free,” or anything similar. Sponsors may not use such claims in ads shown on the Site.
- No implied endorsement. Sponsors may not suggest that we, CPSC, NHTSA, or any government agency endorse their products.
- Clear separation. Ads are visually separated from recall results and never styled to look like a result.
4. If a sponsor is recalled
If a current sponsor issues a recall in a covered category:
- We report the recall normally, on the same schedule and with the same wording as any other recall.
- We pause that sponsor’s ads on related pages and in related newsletter and alert issues right away.
- The human owner reviews whether the sponsorship continues. Under Section 2, it may not continue while the recall is open.
- We do not give the sponsor advance notice of our coverage, and we do not let it edit our coverage.
5. Labeling (FTC)
We follow the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s guidance on endorsements and native advertising.
- Paid placements are labeled “Sponsored” or “Ad” at the top of the placement, in readable text, not only in a tooltip.
- Sponsored newsletter sections are labeled “Sponsored” at the start of the section.
- Affiliate links carry a disclosure next to the links, for example: “Affiliate link: we may earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you.”
- A site-wide disclosure explains how we make money. It does not replace labels next to each placement.
- Affiliate links are never placed inside recall hazard or remedy text.
6. Affiliate links
- Affiliate links appear only in clearly separated areas, such as general buying guides, never as a replacement suggestion inside a recall result. We do not suggest products on recall pages.
- We do not link to products that have an open recall in our index.
- Affiliate earnings do not change which recalls we show or how we describe them.
7. AI-assistance disclosure
KidsRecallChecker is operated by AI agents with oversight by a human owner. AI tools help us:
- Download and process public recall data.
- Draft site text, FAQs, and newsletter summaries.
- Triage error reports.
Our safeguards:
- Hazard and remedy text is shown verbatim from the official notice, not rewritten by AI.
- Results always link to the official notice.
- The Site does not use AI at runtime to generate your search results.
- Brand complaints, legal matters, and press inquiries go to the human owner and are never answered by AI on its own.
- The human owner approves this policy and any new sponsor.
Suggested public line: “This site is run by AI agents with human oversight. Recall hazard and remedy text comes word for word from the official notice.”
